Leasing or Purchasing A Vehicle

Leasing or Purchasing A Vehicle

There are pros and cons associated with either type of vehicle financing.

Leasing

  • Offers the opportunity to acquire a vehicle worth more than you could afford to purchase outright.

  • You only pay for the portion of the vehicle (depreciation) that is actually used for the term of the lease, resulting in lower monthly payments.

  • Minimum cash outlay with little or no down payment. In many states, you don't have to pay a big upfront sales tax when leasing.

  • With a closed-end lease agreement, the projected resale value is guaranteed at the beginning of the lease. You have a choice to purchase the vehicle for that price or simply turn it back in and walk away - with the exception of excess wear and/or excess mileage.

  • Business users and companies also benefit by being able to take advantage of fleet pricing and fleet incentives, free up working capital, improve their cash flow, keep their credit line intact, employ off balance sheet financing, and enjoy significant tax advantages.

Purchasing

  • If you are uncomfortable with a monthly payment and are in a position to pay cash for your vehicle.

  • If you would prefer to own a vehicle outright

  • If you enjoy selling your own used vehicle.

  • If you plan on keeping your vehicle for six or more years

  • If you like to customize your vehicle , i.e. painting or adding additional equipment like tinting or sound systems.

  • If you prefer to perform your own repairs.
