Winter Survival Kit

Winter Survival Kit

While many folks go to great lengths to ensure their safety on the road, they are often unprepared when it comes to off-road incidents. To minimize risks, it's recommended that the following items be kept in the trunk of your vehicle:

  • Flashlights with extra batteries

  • First aid kit with pocket knife and any necessary medications

  • Windshield wiper fluid

  • Several blankets

  • Extra clothing, footwear, mittens, socks and a wool cap

  • Small shovel, ice scraper and brush

  • Booster cables

  • Sand, salt or kitty litter for generating traction

  • Matches and a "survival" candle in a deep can (to warm hands, heat a drink or use as lighting)

  • Extra newspaper for insulation

  • Plastic bags for sanitation

  • Set of tire chains or traction mats

  • Small tools

  • Brightly colored cloth to use as a flag

  • Road maps

  • Bottled water

  • Non-perishable food

  • Flares

  • Charged up cellular phone
