You want me to think about my vehicle needs for next year? What, are you crazy?


Savvy fleet managers are actively beginning the planning process now for vehicle replacements and additions of 2009 model year vehicles.  Some 2009 model year vehicles are already available, while the balance will be orderable early in July.  These plans will include vehicles that are scheduled for replacement as far as spring of next year.  You may ask why anyone would subject them self to this project so far in advance.  Simply put - savings.   


There are three main categories of potential savings waiting for you: 
 

  1. Early Order Discounts – Manufacturers are anxious to receive your fleet orders, and may offer early order incentives that range from $300 to $500 for orders placed prior to December 31st.  You can even take advantage of this early order discount on your vehicles that you will be putting in service next year by placing your orders with a delivery date that’s scheduled for 2008.

  2. Price Protection – Manufacturers increase vehicle prices throughout the model year.  Across the board, these increases range from $200 to $400 from when the prices are first introduced sometime in August, until the end of the model year production the following spring.  Placing your orders at the beginning of the model year, even with postponed delivery dates, locks in your pricing and eliminates these increases.

  3. Volume Discounts – Depending on your order volume, automotive manufacturers that offer fleet programs may provide additional incentives to your company.  These incentives often can range anywhere from $300 to $2,000.
     

Collectively, these potential savings can add up to $800 to $2,900 on each vehicle.  Not a bad reward for imposing a little advanced planning into your company vehicle program.
